Happy 2010: Get ready to be amazed by Mapawatt

2009 was a good year for Mapawatt blog. This blog was born in the middle of February of 2009, and in less than a year we have already:

But while 2009 was a nice start, 2010 is where we explode.

Our goal from the beginning has been - and remains - to be the internet's number 1 resource for people to learn about energy conservation and clean energy and how it affects their own lives.  There are other websites and blogs that focus on "being Green", Green Business, Climate Change, etc; but we feel that many of these fail to speak directly to the average American and what he/she can do in their own lives to live more sustainably.  This is what Mapawatt is here for.  We plan on educating individuals on how to reduce their energy and water consumption, and create a community where people can work together to exchange ideas, best practices, and stories from their own lives.

I think Pope Benedict XVI said it best a few days ago for his World Day of Peace message titled "If You Want to Cultivate Peace, Protect Creation".  From his message:

Man’s inhumanity to man has given rise to numerous threats to peace and to authentic and integral human development – wars, international and regional conflicts, acts of terrorism, and violations of human rights. Yet no less troubling are the threats arising from the neglect – if not downright misuse – of the earth and the natural goods that God has given us. For this reason, it is imperative that mankind renew and strengthen “that covenant between human beings and the environment, which should mirror the creative love of God, from whom we come and towards whom we are journeying”

I don't think the leader of a few hundred million Catholics could have said it better!

So please, keep reading, commenting, suggesting new topics, offering to write a guest post, getting involved any way you can think of!

2010 is the start of a new decade. Hopefully this will be the decade where sustainable living become mainstream. There are so many benefits from living sustainably (at its core is happiness) and with an ever-growing world population that has ever-dwindling resources, we can't risk this decade not being the decade of Sustainability.  Mapawatt is just getting started, but we plan to be blazing the path of sustainability in this new decade, and we want you to join us!

(we will be starting a newsletter in the next few weeks.  If you are already subscribed to our RSS feed, you will get a copy of the newsletter.  If you'd like to be added to the list, please email!)

Hi again from New Zealand, What a great site and only speaking for myself KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! Your blogs are so informative and though we are a long way behind you guys in general public awareness of sustainability --the movement is growing--our power and abundant cheap water means the average citizen doesn't get too involved in being truly aware but the awareness is growing and when we have droughts in some parts of the country like this past summer ,it can only increase peoples awareness of conservation and sustainability. Count me in for an avid reader of the new mapawatt site and blogs.
